Laura Medne was born in Cesis, Latvia, year 1984. She is a multi-disciplinary artist. First graduated from the Art Academy of Latvia in 2008 with a Bachelors degree in Design and Arts with her final project - jewelry collection „Hands“. Parallel to her studies in Riga she gained additional experience studying abroad. During her professional training in Rome at the Scuola dell‘Arte della Medaglia, she became fascinated for bas-relief in different techniques, numismatic art and Italian culture.
In order to advance her expertise further, she moved to Germany to study Architectural Lighting Design in an international study program at the HS Wismar, University of Technology, Business and Design, where she was given a great chance not only to acquire the knowledge, but also to exchange her experience with students from all over the world. After her traineeships in Frankfurt and Brussels, subsequently completing a Masters degree with the project „Lighting Concept for the Art Academy of Latvia“, she moved to Germany to work as a lighting designer still staying in a close relation to her country working on various coin projects together with the National Bank of Latvia.
In her works Laura is unifying her native Latvian comprehension of aesthetics and intercultural experiences with a passion for detail.
